Known for its Baroque architecture and the Valle d'Itria musical festival, Martina Franca enjoys an elegant and refined beauty. In the heart of the Itria Valley, it was founded by the Prince of Taranto, Filippo I d'Angiò.

A favourite destination for many foreigners, the city of Martina Franca enchants visitors with its historic centre, characterised by its stately and prestigious homes, but above all with its scenic views and gastronomic delights.

What to visit

Piazza XX Settembre will welcome you to the heart of the city. The Villa Comunale, once the garden of the Convento delle Grazie, overlooks this square. To the side of the villa stands the 15th-century Church of S. Antonio; with its neoclassical façade built in 1835, it contains two sculptures by Stefano da Putignano.

Through the arch of St. Stephen's you reach the historical centre, where the Ducal Palace, which currently houses the Town Hall, immediately stands out. The baroque charm of the rooms and the magic of the frescoes that dominate the Ducal Palace attract foreign visitors every year.

Continuing along Corso Vittorio Emanuele you can admire the Basilica di S. Martino, immense and solemn, which stands out in the blue sky of the city, dominating the square.
